On September 16, 2023, the 2nd National Vocational Skills Competition of the People's Republic of China commenced in Tianjin. To celebrate this occasion, EFYI Intelligent Control collaborated with Tianjin Tower（Tianjin Tower is a landmark skyscraper in northern China）to present a groundbreaking drone light show that evening. During the performance, a majestic Chinese dragon formed by 800 drones took flight, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of "A Dragon’s Dance Around the Tower" as it gracefully weaved around the iconic Tianjin Tower.
This flight demonstration transcended conventional drone formations by overcoming significant technical challenges, with signal stability emerging as a critical hurdle. "The technical complexity of circumnavigating the tower is immense," explained Ma Zhicheng, Testing Director of EFYI. "First, we had to mitigate signal interference caused by the tower structure itself through optimized on-side network configurations to ensure maximum communication reliability. Simultaneously, we addressed GPS interference from the tower by refining flight paths, angles, and positional parameters through iterative testing."
Beyond these measures, the team meticulously verified every operational detail - from network architecture optimization to adjusting the dragon's spiral posture, trajectory, entry points, flight speeds, proximity to the tower, and altitude parameters. Over two months of intensive preparation,EFYI's cross-functional teams demonstrated working tirelessly day and night, pursuing perfection through relentless innovation to conquer these technical barriers.
To achieve optimal artistic expression, the company's creative team collaborated with testing, operations, and filming units through dynamic brainstorming sessions. "Our priority was merging Tianjin Tower with Chinese cultural elements," said Zhang Haijiao, Creative Planning Manager. "We sought to showcase the aesthetic synergy between architecture and drone technology while leveraging the tower's prominence to amplify Chinese cultural narratives. After finalizing the dragon-circling concept and the framing of the national flag with the tower, our team meticulously refined the dragon's biomimetic design, particle trajectory effects variations, and lighting transitions to deliver a visually stunning experience."
The seamless execution of this large-scale production required meticulous pre-event planning and on-site coordination by the operations team. "From initial tests with 10, 20, 30, and 300 drones two months prior to the final 800-drone performance, each phase brought us closer to mastering precision at scale," noted Zhao Lichao, Operations Manager. "This one-take success in flight execution, filming, and real-time visualization reflects the cohesive collaboration of every EFYI team member.
